A new framework and burst assembly for IP DiffServ over optical burst switching networks

چکیده
Differentiated Services (DiffServ) has been standardized by the IETF and is considered as a promising IP QoS solution due to its scalability and ease of implementation. In this paper, we present a novel framework for IP Differentiated Services (DiffServ) over optical burst switching (OBS), namely, DS-OBS. We present the network architecture, functional model of edge nodes and core nodes, the control packet format, a novel burst assembly scheme at ingress nodes and scheduling algorithm of core nodes. The basic idea is to apply DiffServ capable burst assembly at ingress nodes and perform different per hop behavior (PHB) electronic treatment for control packets of different QoS classes service at core nodes. Simulation results show that the proposed schemes can provide the best differentiated service for expedited forwarding (EF), Assured forwarding (AF) and best effort (BE) service in terms of end-to-end delay, throughput and IP packet loss probability.

A Fuzzy Based Three Color Meter/Marker for Diffserv Networks (RESEARCH NOTE)
Differentiated Services (Diffserv) which was proposed by Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF), is a scalable and robust model for providing the end-to-end QoS. In the Diffserv networks, metering mechanisms are used to measure traffic stream. The single rate Three Color Meter (srTCM) [1],which was proposed by IETF, meters an IP packet stream and marks its packets either green, yellow, or red....
متن کاملA QoS supporting scheduling algorithm for optical burst switching DWDM networks
The ubiquity of IP has led to IP-over-WDM as the core architecture for the next-generation optical Internet. Optical Burst Switching(OBS) has been proposed to be a competitive switching technology for DWDM networks. Data channel scheduling Algorithm is one of the major challenges in OBS. The same-service-to-all model of the current Internet is inadequate for the diverse quality of service expec...
متن کاملImprovement of TCP Performance over Optical Burst Switching Networks
Transmission Control Protocol (TCP) performance over optical burst switching (OBS) is experimentally investigated on an OBS network testbed. The effect of burst losses on TCP performance over the OBS testbed is studied and the result shows that burst losses will lead to a network wide drop in TCP throughput and there exists an optimal assembly period to maximize the available TCP bandwidth. The...
متن کاملA Tutorial on Optical Networks
In this half-day tutorial, we present the current state-of-theart in optical networks. We begin by discussing the various optical devices used in optical networks. Then, we present wavelength-routed networks, which is currently the dominant architecture for optical networks. We discuss wavelength allocation policies, calculation of call blocking probabilities, and network optimization technique...
متن کاملLatency in Grid over Optical Burst Switching with Heterogeneous Traffic
Optical burst switching (OBS) has been proposed as the next generation optical network for grid computing. In this paper, we envision a heterogeneous Grid served by an Optical Burst Switching framework, where grid traffic co-exists with IP and/or a 10 GE based traffic to achieve economy of scale. This paper addresses the latency that Grid jobs experience in OBS networks. The injection of jumbo ...
